Questions?

Why FrozenPeaz®?

For years, you have heard about using frozen peas instead of ice or gel packs. You?ve even seen peas in movies and on TV (Bridesmaids and The Descendants).

But it isn’t just an old wive’s tale. Frozen peas are recommended by medical professionals to treat swelling and joint pain due to their unique ability to mold to the contours of various body parts (Mayo Clinic – Muscle Pain).

But let’s face it, a bag of frozen vegetables wasn’t meant for repeat use, until now…

Now, there is FrozenPeaz®, a revolutionary alternative to traditional gel packs or ice. The patented FrozenPeaz formula  delivers flexible, form-fitting relief. FrozenPeaz is flexible even at 0° F – that’s cold! The VirtualPeaz? of FrozenPeaz are floating in a non-toxic solution. But there is more, FrozenPeaz are re-usable and can be used for both hot and cold therapy relief.

Designed for athletes, weekend warriors, and those who take hot and cold pain relief seriously. FrozenPeaz® products shatter previous expectations for hot and cold therapy.

Are FrozenPeaz® products safe (non-toxic)?

Absolutely! Just like frozen vegetables, FrozenPeaz® products are non-toxic!

The plant-based Clear Ice Solution? is a 100% natural alternative to petroleum and glycerin gels.

Even though the contents are natural, we still recommend you discard any FrozenPeaz® therapy pack (the whole thing) that is punctured or leaking.

  • Although FrozenPeaz® products are non-toxic, we recommend you contact your healthcare provider if swallowed.
  • If you get the Clear Ice Solution? in your eye, rinse throughly with cool water.
  • The Clear Ice Solution? can be a little sticky. If it comes in contact with skin, clothing or other fabrics, wash them with water and a mild soap to remove the residue.
  • The other neat thing, Clear Ice is – well – clear. So it won’t stain!

Snappy Says:  Snappy Asks: Did you ever wonder what is in the blue gel of some other gel packs?

What do I do if I (or my child or pet) swallow FrozenPeaz®?

FrozenPeaz® products are not a food product and should not be eaten. While the contents of FrozenPeaz hot and cold therapy packs are non-toxic and basically harmless, it would be rather unpleasant to (ah-hem) ?pass? the PEAZ.

If FrozenPeaz® is accidentally swallowed, contact your doctor or poison control immediately for treatment advice.

The Clear Ice? Solution is non-toxic and requires no specific first aid treatment. The VirtualPeaz? are small, round, and should eventually pass right through.

The VirtualPeaz? may also be a choking hazard for little ones. Parents should always supervise children using FrozenPeaz® therapy products.

When is cold therapy not recommended?

Cold therapy  is not recommended for everyone. The risk for frostbite is higher for the very young and the very old. You might be more susceptible to frostbite if you have certain underlying health problems.

People with known or suspected circulatory problems, Cold Hypersensitivity, Diabetes, Raynauds Phenomenon, Cold Urticaria, or Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), nerve damage, paralysis, intolerance to temperature changes or sensitive skin should consult a physician before using FrozenPeaz® products.

People taking medications that constrict (narrow) blood vessels, like beta-blockers and some types of sleeping pills, may also have an increased risk of frostbite or burns.

Heavy smokers are also at a higher risk for frostbite because the nicotine in cigarettes can cause your blood vessels to narrow.

If you meet any of the criteria above, check with your healthcare provider before using cold therapy.

Cold therapy is not recommended immediately before exercise.

If you are unsure if cold therapy is right for you, consult your doctor before using FrozenPeaz® products.

Can I use cold therapy if I have circulatory issues?

If you have known or suspected circulatory issues, you should check with your doctor before using cold or hot therapy . You may have less sensitivity to temperature changes making you more susceptible to frostbite or a burns.

Can my child use FrozenPeaz® cold therapy products?

FrozenPeaz® products should only be used with adult supervision.

While the Clear Ice Solution? in FrozenPeaz® is non-toxic, the VirtualPeaz? in FrozenPeaz® may cause a choking hazard if swallowed. Children also tend to have more sensitive skin than their parents.

Snappy Says:   Snappy says: For use with children, keep PeazPak™ therapy packs in the refrigerator. That way it will be less cold for their tender skin!

Can I use FrozenPeaz® products directly on my skin?

FrozenPeaz® products deliver long-lasting, therapeutic hot therapy and long-lasting, icy-cool cold therapy. We recommend that you place your PeazPak™ therapy pack in the PeazPod™ sports wrap that enables you to add customizable compression to your hot or cold therapy treatment.

If you do not have a PeazPod™ sports wrap, you can wrap your PeazPak™ in a towel.

Snappy Says:  Snappy says: If the PeazPak™ therapy pack still feels too hot or too cold, try adding another thin layer of clothing or a towel for extra protection. If FrozenPeaz® products feel uncomfortable, stop using the product.

My PeazPak™ cold pack feels too cold. What should I do?

FrozenPeaz® therapy packs are designed to stay flexible down to 0°F. If your PeazPak™ feels uncomfortably cold, try one of the following:

  • Remove the PeazPod™ sports wrap (or towel) from the injury and let FrozenPeaz® warm-up a little before reapplying. 5 to 10 minutes should be enough. Remember the PeazPak™ therapy packs should always be in the PeazPod wrap before putting it on your skin!
  • Add an extra layer (like a towel or light clothing) between FrozenPeaz® and your skin.
  • If you are using FrozenPeaz® in the customizable PeazPod™ wrap, reduce the amount of compression. It is important you do not wrap the PeazPod too tightly.
  •  If your PeazPak™ therapy pack feels hard or too frozen, your freezer may be set below 0°F. Allow your PeazPak to warm-up a bit. If possible, try setting the temperature of your freezer to 0°F.

How long will PeazPak™ cold therapy packs stay cold?

Doctors and Sports Injury Professionals recommend using cold or hot therapy for 20 minutes at a time. Overicing does not help you heal any faster and may actually damage skin tissue.

The great thing about FrozenPeaz® is that it maintains its coldness for longer than 20 minutes

  • PeazPak™ therapy packs require less re-freezing time between uses
  • PeazPak™ therapy packs stay cold enough when wrapped in a PeazPod™ sports wraps that you may even get two 20 minute applications before you have to get off the couch and put it back in the freezer!

Can I use a towel warmer or hydrocollator to heat my PeazPak™ therapy pack?

A towel warmer or hydrocollator heating unit should not be used to heat your PeazPak™ therapy pack. These appliances are designed to keep towels and other items hot for long periods of time at temperatures that significantly exceed the recommended heating times for FrozenPeaz® products. Heating a PeazPak in this way, may result in over heating. Excessive heating can cause bodily harm (you could get burned) or may cause the pack to rupture or leak (you’ll have to throw it away and buy a new one).

Snappy Says: For safe hot therapy, follow the instructions to heat in the microwave or in a hot water bath!

How long will my PeazPak™ hot pack stay hot?

Unlike a bag of frozen vegetables, FrozenPeaz® products are just as effective for hot therapy as they are for cold therapy. Two therapy treatments in a single product!

Similar to cold therapy, Medical Professionals and Sports Trainers recommend using hot therapy for up to 20 minutes at a time. Your PeazPak™ therapy pack will stay warm for that long and longer. Remove the hot pack for at least 30 minutes before reapplying. This allows the tissue to return to normal temperatures. Prolonged use of a hot pack may result in a burn.

Snappy says: For additional protection, always remember to use the PeazPod™ sports wrap as a barrier between your skin and the hot PeazPak™ therapy pack.

How do I heat multiple packs?

Just like with a frozen dinner, heating multiple packs requires more time than heating single packs.

  • Start with the therapy packs at room temperature.
  • Remove PeazPaks from the neoprene/flannel compression sleeve**
  • Lay your PeazPaks flat, in the center of the microwave. Try to ensure the packs do not overlap.

Using a 1,000W microwave, heat the PeazPak therapy packs according to the guidelines on the back of the pack.

  • Large Joint Wrap: Heat for 60 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 10-second intervals. Do not exceed 2 minutes total heating time per use.
  • Small Joint Wrap: Heat for 45 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 10-second intervals. Do not exceed 90 seconds total heating time per use.
  • T-Shape / Neck Wrap: Heat for 45 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 10-second intervals. Do not exceed 90 seconds total heating time per use.

** Flannel Pocket: If your wrap is flannel on BOTH sides, it is ok to keep the packs in the flannel pocket. If your wrap has neoprene on one side, remove the packs from the wrap before heating in the microwave.

Can I put the both the PeazPak™ and the PeazPod™ in the freezer?

Absolutely, in fact, we recommend it. Place your PeazPak™ therapy packs into the PeazPod™ wrap and store in the freezer so you have flexible cold therapy ready whenever you need it.

To protect your PeazPod™ wrap, we suggest you place the PeazPod in a sealable freezer bag before placing it in the freezer.

How do I use FrozenPeaz® for cold therapy?

To use FrozenPeaz® products for cold therapy, place the PeazPak™ in the freezer. After about 4 hours, it will reach the ideal therapeutic cold temperature. Before applying to your injury, insert the PeazPak™ into the PeazPod™ compression wrap.

If you do not have a specially designed PeazPod sports wrap, you should use a towel or other material between the PeazPak therapy pack and your skin.

To protect your skin from frost bite, it is important that you do not place the PeazPak therapy pack directly on your skin.

For convenience, FrozenPeaz® therapy packs can be kept inside the PeazPod™ and stored in the freezer for future use. To protect your PeazPod wrap, we suggest you place the PeazPod in a sealable freezer bag before placing it in the freezer.

For use with the elderly, headaches or more sensitive areas, you may prefer a chillingly cool PeazPak to an icy cold PeazPak. In that case, keep your PeazPak in the refrigerator.

Medical professionals recommend applying cold therapy for less than 20 minutes at a time. Remove the ice for at least 30 minutes and reapply.

Snappy Says: Remember, FrozenPeaz can also be used for heat therapy! You can’t do that with your garden variety frozen vegetables.

After about 4 hours, your PeazPak™ will reach the ideal therapeutic cold temperature. If you are in so much pain you cannot wait, after about 2 hours your PeazPak should be cold enough to provide some relief! Keep in mind that freezer temperatures vary, so your experience may be different.

A few additional tips:

  • Store your PeazPak flat in the freezer. It will get to temperature faster!
  • FrozenPeaz® will easily conform to your body at temperatures as low as 0° F (-17° C). That is cold!
  • It is ok to keep your PeazPak at temperatures below the guidelines above. But at a certain point, everything – even your PeazPak – will freeze solid.

Can I take FrozenPeaz® products to the sports field or to the park?

Absolutely! FrozenPeaz® products hold their coldness for a long time. Pack your cooler full of FrozenPeaz and head to the game. Your PeazPaks? will be ready to Relieve Pain, Reduce Swelling, and help you Recover Faster!

Snappy Says: Let’s Play!

How do I use FrozenPeaz® products for hot therapy?

FrozenPeaz® can be used for hot or cold therapy (you can’t do that with your garden variety frozen peas).

To use your PeazPak for heat therapy, start with the PeazPak™ at room temperature. Using a 1,000W microwave, heat the PeazPaks for the following times:

  • 8″ x 9″: Heat for 60 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 10-second intervals. Do not exceed 90 seconds total heating time per use.
  • 7.5″ x 6″: Heat for 35 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 5-second intervals. Do not exceed 60 seconds total heating time per use.
  • 7.5″ x 3.25″: Heat for 15 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 5-second intervals. Do not exceed 30 seconds total heating time per use.
  • 5.5″ x 4.0″: Heat for 15 seconds. Remove PeazPak carefully. Knead to distribute heat. For additional warmth, microwave in 5-second intervals. Do not exceed 30 seconds total heating time per use.

Prior to use, always place your PeazPak in a PeazPod™ or wrap in a towel.

When is hot therapy not recommended?

Heat and warmth help to soothe stiff joints, relax muscles, and increase blood flow.

Do not use heat therapy  on a sudden or acute injury  within the first 48 hours.

Do not apply heat therapy to inflamed joints or acute infections. As a general rule of thumb, do not apply hot therapy to an injury that is already warm to the touch.

As with cold therapy, heat therapy should not be used on any area that has decreased sensation.

How long should I microwave my FrozenPeaz® therapy pack?

FrozenPeaz® can be used for hot or cold therapy (you can’t do that with garden variety frozen peas).

To use your PeazPak™ therapy pack for hot therapy, start with the therapy pack at room temperature. Lay your PeazPak flat, in the center of the microwave.

Using a 1,000W microwave, heat the PeazPak therapy packs according to the guidelines on the back of the pack.

Snappy Says:   SNAPPY says: Remember to always place your PeazPak in a PeazPod™ or wrap in a towel before use!

Can I put FrozenPeaz® products from the freezer into the microwave?

We recommend that you start from room temperature when heating your PeazPak™ therapy pack.

If you decide to heat a PeazPak™ that has been chilled in the freezer or refrigerator, you may need to increase the heating times indicated in the instructions. If you heat the pack for longer than instructed, you may accidentally overheat the PeazPak. Overheating your FrozenPeaz® may cause injury and/or may cause your PeazPak to burst.

Snappy Strongly Suggests: Instead of microwaving your PeazPak™ therapy pack directly from the freezer, keep an extra PeazPak at room temperature (like your medicine cabinet or first aid kit). You’ll be able to heat your PeazPak faster and you won’t risk overheating!

How do I heat my PeazPak™ therapy pack without a microwave?

Absolutely! If you don’t have a microwave OR to ensure the perfect temperature every time, you can heat your PeazPak™ in a hot water bath. Here’s how…

For the Extra Large and Large PeazPak™ therapy packs: Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil in a pan larger than the PeazPak. Remove water from heat source. Immerse PeazPak in water for 5 minutes. Carefully remove PeazPak from hot water. We suggest you use silicone coated tongs (tongs to protect your skin from hot water; silicone to protect your PeazPak from sharp edges of metal tongs).

For the Medium and Small PeazPak™ therapy packs: Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a pan larger than the PeazPak. Remove water from heat. Immerse PeazPak in water for 5 minutes. Carefully remove PeazPak from hot water. We suggest you use silicone coated tongs (tongs to protect your skin from hot water; silicone to protect your PeazPak from sharp edges of metal tongs).

Place the heated PeazPak™ therapy pack in the PeazPod™ compression sports wrap and you are ready to go. If you do not have a PeazPod sports wrap, wrap the hot therapy pack in a towel.

Do not place the hot therapy pack directly against your skin.

CAUTION: Hot water may cause burns.

Can I use a hot water bath to heat my PeazPak™ therapy pack?

Yes, you can! If you don’t have a microwave  OR to ensure the perfect temperature every time, you can heat your PeazPak™ in a hot water bath. Here’s how…

Snappy says: For additional protection, always remember to use the PeazPod™ sports wrap as a barrier between your skin and the hot PeazPak™ therapy pack.

How tight should I wrap the straps of the compression sleeve wrap?

The right amount of compression can help reduce swelling and help the cold or hot therapy to penetrate deeper into the muscles. But, tighter isn’t always better. Your PeazPod™ compression wrap should be snug around the injury but not so tight it cuts of circulation. Customizable compression sleeves like the PeazPod sports wrap drive relief deep into the affected area to rapidly relieve pain.

SNAPPY suggests: If your fingers or toes start to tingle or throb, or if it just feels too tight – loosen up and re-wrap!

Can I wash my PeazPod™ compression sleeve?

Absolutely! For best results, remove the Velcro straps and wash the PeazPod™ sports wrap in cold water with mild detergent. Line dry the compression wrap to keep it looking good longer!

Because there is Velcro on the closure, take care not to wash your PeazPod with anything that might stick to the Velcro.

What if I forgot to remove the elastic straps before washing the compression wrap?

No problem! The PeazPod™ compression sleeve and straps are completely washer safe. The only reason we recommend removing the straps before washing is so the Velcro doesn’t stick to everything.

How do I clean my PeazPak™ therapy pack?

Remove the PeazPak™ hot and cold pack from the PeazPod™ sports wrap. Gently wipe down the therapy pack with mild soap and water when necessary. Pat dry or air dry. Make sure the PeazPak therapy pack is completely dry before microwaving it or placing it back in the freezer or PeazPod sports wrap.

How do I store my FrozenPeaz® therapy packs?

We suggest you keep at least 2 sets of FrozenPeaz® hot and cold packs. Keep a couple of PeazPak™ therapy packs in the freezer or refrigerator so they are ready for cold therapy use.

Keep a few more PeazPak™ therapy packs in a dry place (like a medicine cabinent or first aid kit), so they are ready for hot therapy use.

SNAPPY’s Tip: For cold therapy, FrozenPeaz® wraps and packs can be stored together in the freezer for convient cold therapy relief. All you have to do is take it out of the freezer. You will be chillin’ with FrozenPeaz in a “snap”.

To protect your PeazPod™ wrap, we suggest you place the PeazPod in a sealable freezer bag before placing it in the freezer.

How often will I have to replace my PeazPak™ therapy pack?

We spent a lot of time testing different materials to ensure that FrozenPeaz® products are reusable for a really long time. As long as you don’t overheat the PeazPak™ therapy packs, your FrozenPeaz products will perform like new even after repeat reheats!

The VirtualPeaz® in FrozenPeaz® packs are not fragile – but you should still treat your PeazPak™ hot and cold packs with care. Try not to drop them on the floor or use them for a game of cornhole.

If your PeazPak™ therapy pack does spring a leak, it should be discarded. The pack… the VirtualPeaz and all. Your PeazPod® compression sleeve is still good – so pick up extra hot and cold packs and you’re back in the game.

Snappy Says:   Snappy Says: The PeazPak™ pouch is strong! But it isn’t made of kryptonite, so be careful not to puncture our burst your PeazPak hot and cold pack.

What is hot therapy and when should I use it?

Hot Therapy or thermotherapy, provides soothing relief for sore or stiff muscles, arthritis, long-term injuries (chronic injuries), or acute injuries (sudden injuries) that are almost healed (after the first 48 to 72 hours). Heat can also be used before exercise to loosen muscles but should not be used immediately after exercise.

Confused about when to use hot versus cold therapy, you are not alone! Check out “Some like it Hot. Some like it Cold” for tips on whether heat or cold is the best choice to relieve your pain.

What is cold therapy and when should I use it?

Cold therapy or cryotherapy lowers the temperature of damaged tissue and reduces blood flow to the area. Cold therapy is one of the most widely recommended therapeutic methods for treating  sudden or acute injuries that are caused by things like strenuous exercise, over-lifting, or injuries from an accident or fall. These acute injuries often result in swelling and inflammation. So why does cold therapy help?

1. Cold therapy constricts the blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the injury. Thereby preventing or minimizing a build up of wastes and fluids. In English, that means less bruising and swelling!

2. Cold therapy also helps to numb the nerve endings which decreases the pain receptors sent to the brain. What does this mean? Fast, localized pain relief!

Still not sure if you need hot or cold therapy? Read on…

Snappy says: Cold therapy with FrozenPeaz® provides all of the above and the solution is 100% natural (no pills, no blue goo). Plus, it stays super flexible and conformable to your individual body parts!

FrozenPeaz® products provide deep penetrating, flexible cold therapy in a convenient, reusable pack.

What is cold compression therapy?

FrozenPeaz® therapy packs used in combination with the PeazPod™ sports wrap provide cold compression therapy – 2 of the 4 components of R.I.C.E therapy.

Cold Therapy helps to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

  1. Cold therapy constricts the blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the injury. Thereby preventing or minimizing a build up of wastes and fluids.
  2. Cold therapy also helps to numb the nerve endings, which decreases the pain receptors sent to the brain.

Compression Therapy increases external pressure on the injured tissue. This increased pressure has 2 effects

  1. The pressure restricts fluid loss from the blood vessels of the injured area, making it more difficult for fluids to accumulate. It is the accumulation of fluids that results in swelling (edema).
  2. Compression enables the cold to penetrate deeper into the injury at a more rapid rate because the compression wrap improves skin contact with the cold pack.

Snappy’s Translation: All that medical speak above means that if you use FrozenPeaz® immediately after an injury, you will have

  • Less swelling and bruising
  • Fast, localized pain relief

What is R.I.C.E. Therapy

The best treatment for most sports injuries or a sprained ankle is RICE Therapy. RICE stands for Rest, Ice (or cold), Compression, Elevation. FrozenPeaz® hot and cold therapy when used with the PeazPod™ sports wrap, provide the cool compression recommended by medical professionals. Learn more about RICE Therapy.

Should I use cold therapy or take an anti-inflammatory?

Many people are turning to natural remedies, like FrozenPeaz® hot and cold therapy products, instead of medication. Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen sodium (commonly called NSAIDs) are pharmaceutical ways to reduce inflammation. Studies have linked these medications to adverse stomach and kidney effects.

In contrast, applying cold therapy like FrozenPeaz® constricts blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and reduces pain – Naturally!

Take extra care if you decide to combine an anti-inflammatory medication and cold therapy. The medication may dull your sensitivity to cold.

SNAPPY Says: FrozenPeaz® – feel better naturally. No pills required!

Can I use ice therapy to speed recovery after an intense workout?

Yes! Training for a marathon, triathlon or other intense sports workouts, can cause micro tears in the muscle fibers. While there are varying opinions in the medical profession, many professional athletes and sports trainers use ice packs after a game to help reduce inflammation and promote faster recovery of the muscle tissue. Follow their example and apply FrozenPeaz® cold therapy sports wraps to shins, shoulders and other pain prone areas.

Snappy’s Tip: Chilling out with FrozenPeaz® cold therapy sports wraps after a long workout or run not only helps reduce inflammation – it feels good too!
